Have you ever said to yourself,
‘After I lose a certain number of pounds, I will
reward myself with some new clothes’? Many of us
refuse to buy clothes at the weight we do not wish to
retain. It may seem counterintuitive to take some time
and money to look nice at the current weight, but looking
good and feeling good is a first step to the correct frame
of mind for weight loss. Instead of waiting for weight
loss in order to look and feel better, set yourself on
the right track with clothes that motivate you to take
care of yourself and feel good about yourself.
You do not have to go out and splurge on expensive fabrics
and designer labels when you do not plan to wear this
size for very long. But choose a cut and pattern that
flatters your figure. When you learn to feel good about
yourself and embrace your body at its current weight,
you will be more likely to care for it and provide it
with the proper food and exercise needed to bring it to
its best.
Another surprising idea is that you do not need to hide
your body under a tent to look your best. Sometimes baggy
clothing makes you look bigger. The important thing is
to de-emphasize your less attractive areas and bring attention
to your assets. For example, if you have a beautiful collar
bone, you may want to choose a neckline that scoops in
a way to point out this beautiful area.
Rather than choosing clothes that are too large, find
clothes that fit properly with colors and patterns that
flatter. For example, if you have a bit more ‘junk
in your trunk’ than you would like, a nice fitting
pair of dark pants or skirts will de-emphasize this area.
If you have a very large chest or wide shoulders, stay
away from horizontal stripes in these places.
As far as colors are concerned, remember that anyone at
any weight should put colors near their face that flatter
their personal and individual coloring.
Avoid the urge to cover every inch of your body until
you lose the weight you want to lose. Highlight those
areas that you love, and camouflage the others with dark
colors or strategically positioned stripes. By owning
your body and recognizing the beauty in it, you will be
one step closer to making positive life style changes
that will take the weight off.
